I visited the National Museum of Mathematics with my 7 year old son on a whim. It was a recommendation from our hotel concierge. We found some free time so we decided to try it out. All I have to say is, it was likely the highlight of our entire trip!
The National Museum of Mathematics or “MoMath” is a unique math and science museum located in the heart of New York City with an exciting mission: to inspire curiosity about mathematics and science for all visitors. What age is the Museum of Math good for?
The museum is definitely tailored towards kids, but even as an adult, I really loved this museum. There were so many interesting exhibits to try out and fun puzzles to solve.
I took my seven year old son and I would say this age is definitely a sweet spot. He loves math and stem class and everything here was a version of that.
How to Get to MoMath
MoMath is located at 11 East 26th Street. New York, NY 10010. If taking the subway, the closest stations are on the 6 train or N, Q, R, W. Its located across from Madison Square Park on the North side.
Cost to Visit MoMath
Children, students, and seniors are $20 while adult tickets are $25. Children ages 2 and under are free. Special events offered incur an additional fee of $10. I recommend buying your tickets in advance online to save some time.
When to Visit MoMath
The museum is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm and closed select holidays. During the week it is best to visit outside of school hours in case there is a field trip. I would also recommend calling in advance to ask if there are any scheduled field trips during your visit. This will help to plan your timing.

I recently had the chance to visit MoMath NYC with my seven year old son. We went in without expectations since it was a last minute change of plans. Here are some highlights from our visit:
- Twister Thruway – Take the driver’s wheel as you make your way through a twisted Möbius strip and a trefoil knot.
- Tracks of Galileo – An interactive track where kids can change the pattern to determine what makes a faster car.
- Math Square – Located on the bottom floor, this interactive math puzzle changes daily with a new problem to solve. My son and I were determined to solve it and spent a lot of time making our way through this math maze!
