Exploring the Various Rooms in the Color Factory
Exploring The Color Factory in NYC is an absolute treat! With each unique room bursting with color, you can’t help but be swept away in a technicolor fantasy. From the custom-made confetti room to the tasty candy disco and interactive rainbow stairs.
Every corner of The Color Factory reveals something one-of-a-kind that will delight all ages. Each stop along the way celebrates color and interaction in a truly interactive way that cannot be experienced anywhere else. It’s easy to find yourself lost in this vibrant, larger than life experience.

The Rainbow Room and Hall of Smells
This is a room painted with colors of the rainbow. The fun part are the small circles located all over the wall with various smells. Some were good, some were bad.
We enjoyed trying out the different color smells such as “Already losing it’s flavor,” or “Cherry Blossoms in Bloom,” “Put it in the Coconut.” Can you guess what any of these actually smelled like?

The Complimentary Room
You and your partner each pick a door (white or black) to go through. You then enter a room with desks lined up and choose a set of complimentary colors to sit at. Once there you put on headphones and complete the activity together (I won’t give away too many surprises!)
When you finish the activity you enter the next room and pick out your next treat to enjoy!

Music Room
Filled with colors of the rainbow, pick up a mallet and listen to the different toons of each color. See if you can make some music out of your favorite colors!

Seasonal Room
We went during the Cherry Blossom exhibit. The room was covered in pink and decorated with Cherry Blossoms and pink confetti everywhere.

Find Your Secret Color Room
Follow the lines by answering a series of questions that fit your personality. At the end discover what your secret color is.

The Gold Room
Put on some headphones and dance the night away in this silent disco room! Covered from floor to ceiling in gold decor and mirrored walls. We had a blast dancing around in here!

Slide into the Blue
A giant ball pit filled with blue plastic balls to swim around in or slide into. We easily spent the most time here. My seven year old claimed it was his favorite part and didn’t want to leave. Once you are done, grab your special treat and surprise before you exit through the gift shop.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit to the Color Factory
Visiting the Color Factory in NYC is a great way to make your day brighter! With interactive art installations and workshops exploring the science behind color, you’ll leave feeling inspired. The family-friendly exhibits are designed to entertain and educate, so it’s the perfect day out for children and adults alike.
Take your time exploring each room and try not to rush and if you aren’t sure what a specific room is supposed to be make sure you ask! We had no idea that the first rainbow hallway had fun smells in the circles on the wall. We initially ran through, but thankfully stopped to ask what the purpose of the room was.
There are fun and educational facts written all over, so make sure you read through them and not just skip over it all! If you are a photo lover, take advantage of every single photo op, there are several in almost every room and you can take as many pictures as you’d like to get the perfect shot!

What to Wear to The Color Factory NYC
Where something comfortable you can move around in. I would suggest sneakers and pants, as skirts and dresses could make it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. There are so many opportunities for fun and colorful photo ops, so wear something bright and contrasting! Better yet, where something with multiple colors to fit in with the many exhibits!
Coat check is available at no additional cost and strollers can be stored in the lobby as well, but must be folded. They are not permitted in the exhibit.
How Long Does it Take to Visit The Color Factory NYC?
The entire exhibit will take approximately one hour. We spent a decent amount of time in each room and still finished the entire trip in one hour. However, once you enter you are free to explore at your own pace, so in reality you can spend as little or as long as you’d like. The only stipulation is that the museum is a one way visit. Once you leave a room, you cannot go backwards.
Final Thoughts on The Color Factory NYC
I visited the Color Factory with my seven year old son and had an absolute blast. We loved the interactive, color-filled journey and all of the special treats along the way. I loved being able to capture fun photos with my son that I could keep forever. Every step of the way was filled with joy and creativity – from the rooms designed by top artists to the tasty treats blended perfectly with each art installation.
Upon visiting The Color Factory in NYC, it’s clear that you can expect to find a whole world of creativity, filled with vibrant colors and experiences. What made this trip so much fun was exploring it with my son. I would say however, I don’t think that I would have had quite as much fun or enjoyed it as much if I were with other adults, like my husband or girlfriends alone.
At the end of the day, it is a fun museum with a unique perspective on color’s role in our lives, for the price you pay however, I don’t think its worth it to visit without kids. If you are really into the art aspect, and learning more about this topic, then go for it! Or, if you are really into fun, colorful photos for Instagram. If the price doesn’t bother you as much then The Color Factory is definitely a must-see for those looking for an out-of-the-box creative adventure.
