#1 Visit One of the Many Parks or Playgrounds
Taking a stroll through Central Park is free and a great way to explore an iconic part of NYC! Don’t forget to also check out some of the lesser known parks like Madison Square Park or Union Square.
These parks always bustling with activity and special events. Many of the smaller parks sprinkled throughout the city have playgrounds. My kids loved stopping to play in between the more grown up activities!
#2 Ride the Staten Island Ferry
What’s better than a free cruise around the NYC harbor with gorgeous views of the NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty? No need to get off the boat, simply sit back and enjoy the ride. Kids will love the chance to see the Statue of Liberty and taking a ride on the ferry is so much fun.

The Color Factory is like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, and it’s just waiting to be explored. I visited The Color Factory with my 7 year old son and we had a blast. We loved exploring the many colorful rooms and sliding into the giant ball pit pool.
#18 Rise NY
Rise NY is a museum and digital ride in the heart of NYC, Time Square. Take a stroll through the history of media in New York City. Learn how Time Square came to be the famous landmark that it is today.
Rise NY is an interactive museum that allows you to step inside the sets of your favorite TV shows and view memorabilia. The end of the museum takes you on a literal “ride” through New York City, which is the highlight of the entire experience. Keep in mind that kids need to be at least 40 inches tall to enjoy the ride.
#19 Children’s Museum of Manhattan

This one is for the train lover kids! The NY Transit Museum is nestled in a decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn. This hidden gem is an immersive experience that takes you on a journey through time.
Kids will be amazed by the stunning collection of vintage subway cars, some dating back to the early 1900s. A showcase of the evolution of New York City’s public transportation system.
Along the way, you’ll also get to explore engaging exhibits. It has interactive displays about the city’s vast, intricate network of tunnels and tracks plus the history of turnstiles and subway coins.
🌟Important Tip to Know Before You Go!! Due to the historic nature of the location, there is no elevator access down to the museum. Heavy strollers that cannot be carried down the stairs are not recommended.

If you’ve ever thought that math couldn’t be fun, MoMath might just change your mind! This fascinating and highly underrated museum is a treasure trove of mind-bending exhibits and interactive displays.
With two stories of unique, interactive exhibits MoMath with grab the attention of young kids with big imaginations. Perfect for grade school kids, my 7 year old love everything about this museum.

A visit to the American Museum of Natural History is one of the best things to do in New York with kids. This iconic museum is a part of history and your kids will absolutely love exploring every inch of it. It’s one of my all-time favorite places and I have been multiple times with my kids!

Set in a sprawling, interactive space, this one-of-a-kind spy museum in New York City takes visitors on a top-secret mission. It offers a unique blend of hands-on activities, intriguing exhibits, and eye-opening insight into the world of spies.
While you’re there, you will test your skills in everything from lie detection to code-breaking. All while learning fascinating stories about history’s most famous spies and intelligence operations.
I would rate this activity as something that is more geared towards older kids who can independently read well. There are a lot of clues that you need to follow that will require reading various instructions. A great option for superhero fans is the Batman Experience!

This store is for the gamer kids. I took my 7 year old son here and we easily spent well over an hour exploring the two floors, testing out new video games and finding gifts for the entire family.
This is more than just a store. There is an entire area dedicated to testing out video games and a huge screen to play against other kids. Everything from Mario, Link and Pikachu, all within the walls of the Nintendo Store.

Try one of their immersive experiences! I recently took my daughter to the Disney’s Encanto Experience (Note this has now been replaced with the Trolls Experience!) at the CAMP store on 5th Avenue and we had so much fun!
She absolutely loved exploring the replica house from one of her favorite movies, Encanto! We met characters from the movie, explored all of the rooms and secret passages, and sang our favorite songs. Definitely something you won’t want to miss!

I love that they allow you to hop off at any stop that beckons you and, of course, hop back on to continue your adventure. The laid-back and welcoming vibes of these tours make them the perfect companions for families to experience so much of the city without feeling too rushed. #39 Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
Can you imagine seeing the Statue of Liberty and stepping foot on Ellis Island for the first time? Back in the day, millions of immigrants experienced this mix of emotions as they sailed into New York Harbor in search of the American Dream.
Lady Liberty, as many call her, was a symbol of freedom, hope, and new beginnings to people far and wide. She stood tall and proud, greeting the newcomers with her marvelously sculpted features and the ever-glowing torch lighting their way.

Ah, the Empire State Building – what an iconic piece of architecture! Standing tall at 1,454 feet, this legendary skyscraper has been a symbol of New York City’s skyline since its completion in 1931. It held the title of the world’s tallest building for nearly four decades, which is no small feat.
What I love most about visiting this historic site is the incredible panoramic view from the 86th-floor observatory – nothing quite compares to the experience of taking in the bustling city from up above. There’s also a fascinating history behind the structure too.
From its rapid construction (completing in just 14 months) to its famous appearance in classic films like King Kong.
