#1 Visit the High Line – An Elevated Park Along a Former Railway Track
If you’re in New York City and looking for a unique outdoor experience, make sure to visit the High Line. This elevated park stretches above the bustling streets of Manhattan and offers stunning views of the city skyline.
The High Line was originally an old freight railway track, but has been transformed into a green oasis with grasses, wildflowers, and art installations. You can explore the park’s various sections, which range from intimate seating areas to open lawns perfect for picnics. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below.

Made available to the public on a first come first serve basis, tours are open year round typically operating on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday and Saturday mornings in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Things to know before you go:
The Staten Island Ferry is a free service that rides between the St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island and the Whitehall Ferry Terminal (also known as South Ferry) in Manhattan.
The Ferry runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week varying between every 15 minutes to 30 minutes during slower times of day.
The best time to take a ride on the ferry is during off-peak hours (ie. not during rush hour where commuters are heading to and from work!)

#7 Visit Queens County Farm
Welcome to Queens County Farm, a charming destination that promises to take you back in time to experience the rural way of life. The farm spans over 47 acres of land and is recognized as the longest continuously farmed site in the State of New York.
As you walk through the gates, you’ll be greeted with endless panoramic views of green pastures and farmland contributing to a distinct countryside ambiance. The farm offers a variety of engaging activities such as seasonal crop picking, visiting farm animals, and hayrides.
It’s a perfect place to experience authentic agricultural practices while having fun with your friends and family.
Admission to Queens County Farm is free to the public, but we highly recommend trying out one of their many festivals and events! These come at a small fee and are so much fun to enjoy. Events are offered all throughout the year.
While visiting, take a hay ride for $6 or feed some live stock. Make sure to read up on their rules, regarding feeding animals. Only certain items can be given. I would also make sure to check out the farm store and buying some fresh eggs before you go!

#9 Step Back Into The Middle Ages at Met Cloisters
I’m Sure you have heard of The Metropolitan Museum of Art or “The MET,” but have you heard of Met Cloisters? Located in Upper Manhattan, the Met Cloisters is a museum dedicated to showcasing art and architecture of medieval Europe.
It is meant to be an extension of The MET, and you will find so much more beyond the galleries. Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens while marveling at the architecture and exhibits throughout the property.
Set high up in Fort Tyron Park, overlooking the Hudson River, this is truly a unique museum you will not want to miss.
Getting to The Met Cloisters
Take the A train to 190th Street then walk north along Margaret Corbin Drive for approximately 10 minutes If you are coming from The Met Fifth Avenue, take the M4 bus directly from Madison Avenue/83rd Street to the last stop. If driving, visitors can park in the free available parking in Fort Tryon Park.
Hours of Operation & Cost of Admission to Met Cloisters
Open Thursday–Tuesday: 10 am–5 pm. Closed Wednesday.
Tickets for general admission are $30 for adults; $22 for seniors; $17 for students. Children under 12 are free. Tickets include admission to both the MET and the Met Cloisters. Residents of NY, NJ, and CT Students can “pay what the wish” to enter.

The Morgan Library was once the personal library of financier, collector, and cultural benefactor Pierpont Morgan. He had an extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts and old master drawings and paintings.
Eleven years after his death the library was donated to the public by his son J.P. Morgan. The library was eventually expanded to a museum while also adding a performance hall, café and restaurant, a shop, reading room, and collections storage.

#12 Tour the Brooklyn Museum and its World-Renowned Collections of Art

If you’re a transportation enthusiast or a history buff, you won’t want to miss out on the NY Transit Museum. Located in Brooklyn, this fascinating museum offers visitors the chance to explore over 100 years of New York’s public transportation history.
Set in an actual subway station from 1936 in Brooklyn, NY You’ll get to see and climb aboard vintage subway cars, trolleys, and buses. The museum also features exhibits on the evolution of fare collection, the construction of the subway system, and the impact of public transportation on New York City’s growth and development.
Know before you go!
The museum is located in a historic underground subway station. There is an accessible entrance, however this is not equipped to handle strollers. You must carry your stroller down the stairs (So pack a light one!!)
There is no cell phone service in the museum, so keep a close eye on your party so that you don’t get separated.
Hours are Thursday – Sunday, 10am to 4pm, closed Monday – Wednesday.
General admission for adults is $10, Seniors and Children $5.
#14 Visit Color Factory
The Color Factory is an interactive exhibition that is bursting with vibrant hues and playful installations that will transport you to a world of pure joy. From rainbow colored rooms to a gold disco dance, there are so many things to explore.
This unique museum was created with the help from artists all over the world. As you go through the museum, each room has its own special exhibit. Every one of your senses will take part when you are here!
The price on this museum can seem high, but there is a lot included. The best part is all of the fun photo ops that are included in your package! Each room has cameras placed throughout and you are free to take as many pictures as you’d like.

#17 Watch Shakespeare in the Park
Every summer, the Public Theater puts on free productions of Shakespeare’s plays in Central Park. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy theater in a beautiful outdoor setting while also soaking up some culture.
Even if you are not a Shakespeare expert, the performances are often reimagined in modern settings, making them accessible and enjoyable for all. This years performance is Hamlet, happening at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park West.
How to Get Tickets and What to Expect
Option 1: Wait in line at the theater. Tickets are offered on a first come first served basis starting around 12pm day of the show. You will need to arrive early and wait for a long time. Bring a chair and some snacks for the day!
Option 2: Sign up for the digital lottery through Todaytix. Sign up is offered between midnight and noon and selected at random.
Option 3: In person lottery at the downtown Public Theater. Signup at 11am and the drawing will take place at noon.
Option 4: Outer Boroughs tickets. Location and dates will vary, but tickets will often be available between 12pm and 2pm at different locations outside of Manhattan. Check Public Website for updated information on locations and dates
Option 5: Standby line. Starting around 6pm the day of the show you can line up at the standup line for unclaimed tickets. There is no guarantee, but hopefully you could get lucky!
Option 6: Make a donation of $300+ for a guaranteed reserved seat! This is the easiest way to see a show, but comes at a price tag. If this is on your bucket list and you have the funds, go for this option to guarantee your spot!
Last but not least, make sure you are registered for a Public Theater ID. This is required for all ticket options!

If you haven’t been to a hidden Speakeasy restaurant or bar yet, then this is absolutely something you will want to try! The first time I visited Beauty and Essex with some friends from work, I was enthralled with excitement of the location and the experience.
Beauty and Essex is located in what looks like a small pawn shop in the lower east side of Manhattan. However, through some secret doors you are taken into an incredible restaurant hidden in plain sight!
To find these unique establishments, you’ll need to do some research and possibly even a little bit of searching to find them, but thankfully for you, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite places in New York City.

#25 Check out some of the best thrift stores in the country
Looking to score some fabulous finds without breaking the bank? New York City has some of the best thrift store shopping there is! You can discover amazing deals on clothing, furniture, and more. There are countless hidden gems waiting to be uncovered.
- AuH2O is located in the East Village and you will find a mix of vintage clothing and accessories. They offer affordable prices with racks at the $5 and $10 price range. You can also shop via their instagram where they drop items and you can comment or DM to purchase and have delivered.
- Awoke Vintage is located in Brooklyn and has three locations, Williamsburg and two in Greenpoint. You can also shop their Instagram store for pickup or delivery.

Staypinapple is a fun hotel that is decked out in the cutest decor! This hotel prides itself on its uniqueness and not so standard amenities. Rather than a continental breakfast they offer popcorn and cookies. They charge a single amenities fee that covers everything from the internet, unlimited bottled water, bikes to take out and about and so much more.
The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel is located in lower Manhattan. The style and decor of this hotel is what sets it apart. Not your typical modern, cold rooms and lobby, but so many unique details and pops of color make this hotel truly special.
The proximity to downtown Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge makes this hotel even better. Keep in mind that the rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but decorated so nice you won’t even notice!
Untitled at Freeman Alley is located in lower Manhattan which makes for an excellent location for all things downtown and Brooklyn. The hotel is located in Freeman Alley and has a unique style that is a mix of modern art and contemporary design.
